The employee in the Mount Vernon School District confirmed the case on Wednesday, Sept. 9, as classes are set to begin remotely on Thursday, Sept. 10.
It's the second COVID-19 case involving a staff member in a Westchester school district.
District officials said they received confirmation of the positive test last week, the employee has been isolated, and are working with the county Health Department on contact tracing.
Cleaning crews have also been brought in to sanitize the building and any spaces the staffer may have been in prior to the COVID-19 test.
The North Columbus Avenue building has been temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen to employees on Monday, Sept. 14.
The district is planning to reassess the COVID-19 situation in the beginning of October, at which point students will transition to a hybrid learning model with parents having the option to keep their children at home.
